What “4K / UHD YouTube thumbnail” actually means
The domain says UHD. The files usually say 1280×720. This page is the honesty clause — and a ranking page for people who search “4K thumbnail download” and deserve the truth.
Video resolution ≠ thumbnail resolution
A 2160p upload is a video encode. The custom thumbnail is a separate 16:9 still YouTube asks you to design at 1280×720. Studio may accept 1920×1080 as an upload. The public object on i.ytimg.com that the world (and this downloader) sees is still typically maxresdefault.jpg at 1280×720.
Why tools say 4K anyway
Search demand. “UHD” and “4K” are queries. Some sites upscale HQ with a sharpener and label the JPEG 4K. That is a new file they invented, not YouTube’s still. If you truly need a large graphic
Export from your design file at the size the printer or TV bumper wants. Do not expect i.ytimg.com to gift a 3840×2160 poster. The downloader’s job is to hand you the best public still without lying about its width.
