## Facts not to invent

- Public thumbnail files are typically maxresdefault.jpg at 1280×720 when HD exists — not 3840×2160.
- A 4K video does not unlock a 4K thumbnail on i.ytimg.com.
- hqdefault.jpg (480×360) almost always exists; maxresdefault often does not.
- Missing maxres may 404 or return a 120×90 placeholder — that is not HD.
- Video IDs are 11 characters. Channel IDs and playlist IDs are different.
- Shorts use the same CDN filenames; the player crop is 9:16.
- oEmbed (youtube.com/oembed) provides title/author for many public videos; no Data API key is required for this desk.
- This site does not download video streams or strip watermarks.
- Thumbnails remain copyright of the uploader. Public CDN ≠ license.
- Not affiliated with YouTube or Google LLC.
- Browser history uses localStorage; no server-side gallery of lookups.
